SUMMARY:Integrating the Principles of Nonviolence and Restorative Justice
DESCRIPTION:This event will Introduce the key principles and deeper ideas that are often missed in celebrating Dr. Martin Luther King\, Jr.’s work. Building upon his recent book\, “Racial Justice and Nonviolence Education: Building the Beloved Community One Block at a Time”\, DR. ARTHUR ROMANO\, Assistant Professor at the Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter School for Peace and Conflict Resolution at the George Mason University draws upon his extensive study of King’s six principles of nonviolence for this interactive conversation. \nHe will be joined with DR. MICAH E. JOHNSON\, Assistant Professor in the Department of Mental Health Law & Policy at the University of South Florida and JEFFREY WEISBERG\, Co-Founder and Executive Director of the River Phoenix Center for Peacebuilding for this interactive conversation which we hope will include your voice! \nTogether we will discuss Dr. King’s thinking about nonviolence and its relevance to restorative justice. This discussion will explore the intersection of theory and practice integrating examples of restorative justice and the practice of nonviolence in the peacebuilding world today.
